JOSH SAMUEL EMERGES WINNER OF THE YOUNG DESIGNER OF THE YEAR AT THE MTN LAGOS FASHION WEEK




Josh Samuel has won the young designer of the year award at the Mtn Lagos Fashion and Design Week. Fashion pundits present at the event were actually tipping Josh Samuel to win  the  award because of his works. His designs are breadth-taking for a young designer, according to guest at the event.

The  crown came with a N 4 MILLION NAIRA cash price courtesy of Mtn. The crown also came with a training programme courtesy British Council, a tour of the  London Fashion Week and a three-month concession at La Space and Grey Velvet.

The Young Designer of the year  award is of particular concern to Mtn, British Council and style House  Files to give ongoing support  to young creatives via a platform for presenting their work. With the  Young Designer of the year  award, Mtn and  British  Council offers young fashion designers the opportunity to  be participants at targeted workshops and  seminars facilitated by British Council and a chance to  exhibit their  collection in  front  of a select  audience at Lagos Fashion and Design  Week .

AFRICA'S TOP YOUNG FASHION DESIGNERS HOSTED BY PRINTEX LIMITED GHANA



A group of Africa's top talent in fashion design were hosted by Printex Limited, Ghana.The get-together took place at African Regent Hotel in Accra. The event was organised  to solidify the relationship between Ace Ghana's textile manufacturing company and the country's best fashion design talents.

Vicky Remoe, a business and brand consultant, said that the event was the first in a series to identify mutually beneficial relationships for Printex and local designers. "Printex believes  the local  fashion design and textile industry are interdependent. We believe that Fashion designers decide the trends" , says Remoe.

The fashion designers present at the event are, Nathaniel Nunoo (Nuna couture), Mina Evans (Mina Evans), Brigitte Merki-Ibrahim (Brigitte Merki), Abena and Nana Darkoa Seyiamah (Maksi Clothing), Kennedy Kofi Ansa (Afri-ken), Abena (Sa4a).

Brigitte Merki-Ibrahim said that the opportunity to  launch co-branded advertising campaigns with Printex is just what the market needs.

ADONIS O'HOLI OF SIERRA LEONE BECOMES MR AFRICA INTERNATIONAL 2012 IN LONDON

Adonis O'holi became the first MR AFRICA INTERNATIONAL 2012. He achieved this great feat at the Africa Centre, London, United Kingdom, during the Mister Africa  International pageant.He defeated 16 other contestants to the Crown. An ecstatic  Adonis O'holi said he felt great and happy to have  won the title. As a matter  of fact, I am already looking  forward to working with Mahogany  International and covering  various magazines but most importantly  looking  forward to changing  lives .

The  competition  was really a close one to call as the contestants featured in traditional wear, then  later the 16 finalists competed in talent hunt, swim wear , evening wear and answering quite difficult questions. The  panel of judges came up with the top  6 ; namely , The Gambia , Ghana , Nigeria , Sierra Leone , Cape verde and Cameroon. The competition came down to the wire during the question and answer segment. Adonis was adjudged the best after the question and answer segment coupled with his performance in the previous rounds . Mr Gambia and Mr Nigeria were the  runners- up while Mr Cameroon clinched the ultimate special award Mr Africa Model 2012.

As MR AFRICA INTERNATIONAL 2012, Adonis O,holi will definitely be working with the YoungCEOs network  to raise funds  for small  scale businesses in Africa  and promote education and tourism in the continent .

The Mister Africa International  is committed  to empowering  young Africans , we are not selling  a dream ,we are building a future with  the  help  of our  contestants and we believe that the  Mister Africa International will  benefit  the continent  immensely  and move us all a step closer to the  Africa we want to see.

MTN LAGOS FASHION AND DESIGN WEEK KICKS OFF WITH SO MUCH PROMISE, DELIGHT AND RAZZMATZZ

Leading telecommunications outfit in Nigeria, MTN, in partnership with Style House Files and the British Council Nigeria, kicked off the fashion event in grand style.The Lagos Fashion and Design Week took off on the 26th day of October, 2012 at the Expo hall of the Eko hotel and Suites.

The first day of event was graced by notable Nigerians and great fashion pundits.The young models that made it to the event left no one in doubt as they dazzled the runway with so much panache and confidence. With the 12 chosen designers all waiting to showcase what they've got, believe you me, you can't afford to miss this watershed event in the Nigerian Fashion industry.

KELECHI ODU, you know him,i doubt..He is a young Nigerian fashion designer that is making a big statement at the LFDW with his breadth-taking designs. His fashion label was first given life to by his mother and it started off with womenswear but has now gone into menswear, which he does with so much expertise.

2012 HAIRDRESSERS CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION













The Nigeria fashion and style sector is set to come alive again with the inaugural edition of Hairdressers Conference and Exhibition slated for October 25 at Time Square Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

Hair Media is at the heart of the event.As organisers of the event, they actually would have the hairdressing and style industry come alive and experience much success as other segments of the Nigerian fashion industry have in recent past.The event is to serve as a platform to encourage  and bring out the best in the Nigerian hairdressers.It will also serve as an opportunity to bring hairdressers closer to the manufacturers inorder to enlighten and educate them.

The organisers have projected that well over 2000 guests are to attend the event. According to the organisers, issues such as Franchising, branding, Salon management, staff management, contemporary hair styling facts and secrets, will be addressed by well  known hair stylists and consultants.

The Group Head of Hair Media Africa, Mr. Emmanuel Ntia, said that the exhibition part of the event could serve as an avenue for stake holders such as corporate bodies, manufacturers of hair products and the like, Hair industry enthusiasts, to showcase their products and services to guests. He also said that there are plans in the burner to take the event to other cities for effective coverage and awareness.

ROSE ODIKA EMPOWERS YOUNG NIGERIANS IN IBADAN LAGOS NIGERIA

The ancient city of Ibadan, Lagos, Nigeria, will in November witness a carnival-like fashion show/event. Specifically,the fashion event is a modelling contest tagged "QUEEN OF THE RUNWAY MODELLING CONTEST".



ROSE ODIKA, a front runner yoruba movie actress and deputy governor of Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioner, is at the heart of the fashion event. She is organising the event to empower and develop young Nigerian Ladies, she stressed. She opined this will make our young Ladies to stay away from some social vices that could have negative impact on them and their respective future.

Notable Nigerians are expected to grace the fashion show.

AT LAST DC FASHION WEEK SEASON 17 KICKS OFF WITH POMP AND PAGEANTRY

The much awaited season 17 of the ever growing DC FASHION WEEK kicked off in great style.The fashion event actually lived up to expectation according a cross-section of the participants.The city of DC was agog for one week and here are some highlights from the various events....

MONDAY,17th,  ECO FASHION SHOW...

This show kicked off DC Fashion week.A lot of Eco-friendly designs were showcased by various Eco fashion designers such as Isagus Extroversions, Joanna Carrie, MyraSync, and "PROJECT BLUE WRAP", an Eco-friendly partnership between DC fashion week and Inova health System's Office of Sustainability that featured clothing made from sterile hospital fabric.







TUESDAY,18TH, AC/DC DESIGNER FASHION SHOW

This event was held at the Washington Club in Dupont Circle.The AC/DC fashion event actually had a serene atmosphere in the second floor ballroom. Bassnectar started off the show with "Ping Pong" which kept the audience thrilled and relaxed, the DJ of the night kept did a good job by coming up with nice tunes. Corjour International (red carpet womenswear designer) and Andrew Nowell Menswear (celebrity menswear designer) graced the runway with their various designs. 


WEDNESDAY,19TH, DC FASHION WEEK FASHION IN THE STREETS

China Town was agog with DC fashion week models and staff. Models from the fashion event walked the streets of china town showcasing much talents.They also performed a flash mob dance spotting a black DC fashion Week T-Shirts.More than two dozen models took part in this event.



THURSDAY,20TH, FASHION INDUSTRY NETWORKING PART

DC Fashion week took a relaxing mood on Thursday as stylists, models, media, photographers,  bloggers, designers, retail, modelling agencies, lovers of style, came together to network. It was a night that will linger on for a while in the the hearts of participants as designers showcased their bathing suit collections.The  models were looking extremely sexy and gorgeous according to a guest.The party took place at Dirty Bar in Midtown. Main stream fashion Accessories were showcased featured during the event such as hats, bags, jewellery, from designers such as House of Jola and Aphropolitan.









FRIDAY, 21ST, SOUTH ASIAN DESIGNER SHOWCASE

At Indique Heights, Maryland,  the South Asian designer collections came out special and made a lot of glowing designs compared to its previous outings.The designer that stood out was Firefly with high coloured jackets and scarves.


SATURDAY, 22ND, EMERGING DESIGNER SHOWCASE & CONCERT

The EMERGING DESIGNER SHOWCASE & CONCERT was integrated into DC fashion week to encourage and promote the young & budding talents in the fashion industry in DC. It was held at the Washington Post Conference Centre.Notable in the night was Nubian Hueman that showcased and sold their personal items.








SUNDAY, 23RD, 17TH INTERNATIONAL COUTURE COLLECTIONS
GRAND FINALE

International Designers present their collections at DC fashion week's finale event.As the suggests, the grand finale was a spectacle to behold as various international designers showcased their best of the best.Held at the Embassy of France la Maison Francaise, the night was a show of cross-cultural collections. The Nigerian delegation was ably represented by Keto Couture and Sally Itiego. Some of their collections ranged from rich African and Nigerian prints with high textured fabrics that can stand on its on in any part of the world.

ANDREA IYAMAH RELEASES "NDU" FALL/WINTER 2012 COLLECTION


Andrea Iyamah, a Delta state born fashion designer,has released her fall/winter 2012 collections.Andrea hails from Agbor tribe in delta state Nigeria.this fall/winter collection has been tagged "NDU" collection.
"NDU" in the Agbor tribe means STRENGTH.According to the designer."NDU" which symbolises strength is the hallmark of the Nigerian woman right from the good old days of our dear ancestors.The Nigerian woman whom has been endowed with natural strength is seen as a role model in the fashion industry.
"NDU" collection actually portrays the feminine gender as bold, daring and fearless.The designer's well detailed cut and precise finishings characterises this fall/winter collection.

"I wanted a collection that was sultry, confident, risky and yet elegant. The collection was shot in G.R.A Lagos Nigeria whereby the model on the runway symbolizes the knowledge of knowing the risk of taking particular steps in life, but yet you take it anyway.In every collection I release, I try to tell a story about a stage of my life i'm facing;this stage is one of consistent motivation, effort and of course "NDU" (strength)" - Andrea Iyamah.

MAI ATAFO WINS TOP AWARD AT GLITZ AFRICA FASHION WEEK-REVIEW



Nigerian designer, Mai Atafo over the weekend was awarded the Designer of the Year at the Glitz Africa Fashion Week held in Ghana.

Atafo made a telling statement when he displayed his impressive collection which included classic men’s suit, bridal wear and evening wear on the final day of the three day event.

The event which kicked off on Friday, August 17, 2012 featured other designers such as the Ghanaian born South African base Ali Adams, Peachy Purr (Ghana), House Of Eccentric (Ghana), Vonne Couture (Nigeria), Kastle Designs & Treasure Chest (U.S) Martial Tapolo (Paris), Wana Sambo Clothing (Nigeria), Modela Couture (Nigeria), Ivana Elle Couture (Ghana), Ohema Ohene (U.K), Gilles Toure (Côte D’ivoire) amongst others.


Guests included former first lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Juliet Ibrahim, Confidence Haugen, Dele Momodu, Kwesi Jyei Darkwa and others.

Other winners included Mina Evans who bagged the ‘Emerging Designer of the Year’, Doris Adom-Asomaning won the ‘Female Model of the Year’ award and ‘Male Model of the Year’ went to Zion Benjamin.

LAGOS NIGERIA: BEST FOOT FORWARD FASHION SHOW HOLDS ON INDEPENDENCE DAY 2012




































The inaugural edition of BEST FOOT FORWARD FASHION SHOW is organised in association with the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos and will be hosted by Sacred Heart Catholic Church Apapa.It promises to live up to expectations according to the organisers.The vision of the fashion show is to become a house hold name in fashion with morals and dignity.It will make you understand that you can still be fashionable, elegant, graceful and stylish without really offending God and mankind.
The organisers of the fashion show intends to achieve the following:
  1. To promote decent and respectable dressing in churches and public places;giving our youths an untainted view and direction for modern day dress sense.
  2. To promote skills acquisition and development.
  3. To help uphold high moral standards among our youths.


   The organisers of the show hopes to assist the church in bringing down to a minimal level the rate of indecent dressing among the younger generations.The church has really tried to curb this menace by many ways which as of today has yielded little or no results.Sending out indecently dressed persons from church services, day-to-day preachings and sermons castigating indecent dressing are some of the ways the Nigerian church has tried to put an end this social menace.with this show on line, participants will get to know how one can dress in order not to be offensive.
The fashion show will provide well and above 1000 fashion tips to attendees based on WHAT TO WEAR AND WHEN and WHAT NOT TO WEAR.
The show is structured to highlight different dress codes for WORK WEARS, OCCASION WEARS, CHURCH WEARS, SCHOOL WEARS and CASUAL OR STREET WEARS.
